Genetic Algorithms

Genetic algorithms are a machine learning technique for optimisation. They were inspired by the way natural selection can evolve novel and varied solutions for a broadly stated problem (i.e.”survival”). The idea is to start with a population of randomly generated solutions, and repeatedly create child solutions by combining and mutating the best performing members of the previous generation. This talk will outline the theory behind genetic algorithms and how they can explore a solution space. It will also go into some of their applications, including genetic programming.
